CINCINNATI, Ohio – The CCU men's volleyball squad came into the final weekend of their regular season on Friday, when they hosted a tri-match with Bluefield College and Lawrence Tech University. The Eagles overwhelmed both opponents on Friday, winning convincingly in the first match against Lawrence Tech 25-17, 25-16, and 25-19. They finished off the sweep in the nightcap against Bluefield winning 25-11, 25-8, and 25-19.
CCU started the afternoon off with a season sweep of Lawrence Tech. The Eagles had a less than stellar attack percentage hitting only .154, with Phillip Andrews and Logan Webber leading the attack with 9 and 8 kills respectfully. CCU had 10 team blocks, led by Webber with 4 solos. Wes Brown connected on 23 assists in his replacement role as of late.
CCU, looking to cap off their sweep in the evening, looked even better in their second match against Bluefield College. Before the game began, the Eagles celebrated their lone senior on the squad, Blake Ford for his accomplishments on and off the court. Then CCU focused their attention on Bluefield, which turned out to be an overwhelming win. The Eagles connected on 40 kills as a team, which resulted in an unbelievable attack percentage of .576. Logan Webber and Lance Wiles combined for 27 kills. Wes Brown continued serving up assists to the tune of 30 for the game, while the Eagles had 9 team blocks.
CCU (13-10, 3-4) finishes off their regular season on Saturday afternoon against conference rival Siena Heights with a 3 pm start. From there, the Eagles will travel to compete in the Mid-East Conference tournament next weekend hosted by Lourdes University. Stay updated on the athletics website for scores and recaps.
