HOLLAND, Ohio – The Eagle volleyball squad headed north to play in the Mid East Conference tournament semifinals on Friday evening against Siena Heights University. The Eagles were looking to avenge their last loss of the regular season, but the Saints got the better of CCU again by winning in four sets 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, and 18-25. With this loss, the Eagles 2016 season came to a close.
The Eagles dug themselves an early hole by losing the first two sets in this semifinal contest. The resilient Eagle squad though, came back with a hard fought third set win to force the #2 seed into a fourth set. The Eagles attack was led by Lance Wiles who connected on 17 kills in just 26 attempts for a .615 attack percentage. The only other Eagle hitter who had double digit attacks was Logan Webber with 12 kills. CCU welcomed back Michael Hiroskey, who had been absent with concussion symptoms, when the experienced setter served up 19 assists and Wesley Brown added 14 assists of his own.
There were several Eagle players who received post season awards at the completion of the season. Logan Webber was selected to the First Team All-Conference team. Lance Wiles, Michael Hiroskey, and Shaun Kanoho were all selected to Second Team All-Conference team. Wesley Brown, Blake Ford, and Logan Webber were all selected to the Academic All-Conference team. CCU finished their 2016 season with a record of 13-12.
